How to Grow Courgette

Cucurbita pepo

Tender Warm Season Continuous Harvest

Courgettes (zucchini) need full sun, rich, moisture-retentive soil, and warmth. Sow indoors in late spring and plant out after frost, or direct sow under cloches. Space generously and water deeply; uneven moisture causes misshapen fruit and poor set. Mulch to keep soil moist. Plants produce male flowers first—early hand pollination can help in cool spells. Pick young and often to keep plants productive; oversized fruits slow further cropping.

When to Start

Start seeds indoors 4 weeks before your last frost date. Transplant outdoors once night temperatures stay above 10°C and soil has warmed to at least 12°C.
