Everything you need to know to design your garden visually. Each section answers a common question with a short video showing exactly how it works.

How do I set up my garden without measuring everything?

Use the satellite view. Search your address, find your garden from above, and draw your beds directly on top of the aerial image. No tape measure needed. The satellite gives you real-world scale automatically.

How do I add a bed?

Open the Beds tool in the toolbar and choose your shape. There are three options:

  • Rectangle: drag it onto the canvas and set the dimensions. Best for raised beds and traditional rows.
  • Circle: drag it onto the canvas and set the diameter. Great for round planters or keyhole beds.
  • Free-form: click to place points and draw any shape you want. Perfect for irregular borders and curved beds.

How do I place multiple of the same plant?

First add a bed, then drag your plant onto it. The plant automatically fills the available space as a rectangle. Resize it to match the area you actually want to use. The plant count updates as you resize.

How do I resize a plant area?

Click the plant placement to select it, then drag any corner or edge handle. The plant count updates automatically as you resize. You can also use the blue fill button to expand the plant back to the maximum available space.

How do I mix different plants in one bed?

Add each plant separately to the same bed. Each one gets its own rectangle, and new plants automatically fill the remaining space around what's already there.

How do I plant in a non-rectangular pattern?

Use plant paths. Select a bed, tap "Add Plant Path", then click to draw a line through the bed. Once the path is drawn, drag plants onto it. They'll space themselves along the line. Great for flower borders, curved edges, or companion planting strips.

How do I place a single plant or tree?

Drag a permanent plant from the plant tray and drop it anywhere on the canvas. Trees, shrubs, and perennials don't need a bed. Just place them wherever they grow in your garden.

How do I add pots or containers?

Use the Pots section in the toolbar. Place them anywhere on the canvas and add plants to them just like you would with a bed.

How do I add fences or walls?

Select the Walls tool from the toolbar, then click to place points along your fence line. Double-click or press Done to finish. You can change the type (stone wall, brick, wood fence, metal fence, or hedge), adjust the height, and pick a colour.

How do I add paths, gravel, or ground textures?

Use the Paths and Texture sections in the toolbar. Draw paths by clicking points (just like walls), or paint textures onto areas to show mulch, gravel, or paving.

How do I see my garden come to life?

Switch to View mode. Your garden transforms into a lush botanical illustration. Zoom in, rotate the view, click any plant for details, and even change the weather and time of day. It's your garden, brought to life from your real layout.

How do I share my design?

Use the share button in the toolbar header. Copy a link and send it to anyone. They'll be able to see your garden design without needing an account. You can also make your garden visible in our community section, where other Leaftide gardeners share their plots.
