Eccremocarpus scaber
Eccremocarpus is a fast-growing half-hardy climber producing clusters of bright tubular flowers in orange, red, and yellow from midsummer to frost. Sow indoors in late winter with gentle heat. Pot on, harden off, and plant out after the last frost against a warm wall or trellis. Provide twiggy support for tendrils to grip. Feed fortnightly with high-potash fertilizer once buds form. In mild areas with wall protection it may survive winter and regrow; otherwise treat as an annual. Self-seeds freely in sheltered gardens.
