Plectranthus is a fast-growing South African subshrub with aromatic foliage and showy purple-blue flower spikes in autumn. Plant in part shade to full shade with moist, well-drained soil. It thrives under trees and makes excellent groundcover. Pinch tips regularly for bushy growth and cut back by one-third in early spring. Very easy to propagate from cuttings at any time during the growing season. In frost-prone areas, take autumn cuttings as insurance and either protect the crown with mulch or grow in containers that can be moved under cover.
