How to Grow Lentil
Lens culinaris
Lentils are a cool-season legume that thrives in lean, well-drained soil and full sun. Sow directly outdoors in early spring once soil reaches 5C. Plants are bushy and self-supporting when grown in dense rows. Keep soil moist during flowering but avoid waterlogging. Harvest when pods turn brown and dry. One of the easiest pulses to grow, lentils fix nitrogen and leave the soil richer for the next crop.
When to Start
Direct sow outdoors as soon as soil reaches 5°C — typically early to mid spring. Hardy enough to tolerate light frosts.
