How to Grow Kalimeris

Kalimeris incisa

Perennial

Kalimeris is a tough, long-blooming perennial bearing masses of small daisy-like flowers from early summer through autumn. Grow in full sun or light shade in any moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Water to establish, then leave largely alone. Cut stems to the ground in late autumn. Divide clumps every 3-4 years in spring to maintain vigour. Fully hardy and virtually pest-free.

Care Essentials

Light balanced feed in spring as growth resumes. Kalimeris are light feeders and rarely need additional fertilising.

Watch For

  • Slugs on young growth
  • Powdery mildew in humid conditions

Care Requirements

Light

Full sun to light shade

Performs best in full sun but tolerates light shade. Flowers most profusely in sunny positions.

Watering

Moderate, drought tolerant once established

Water regularly during the first season to establish. Once settled, tolerates dry spells well.

Fertilizing

Light feed in spring

Apply a light balanced fertilizer in spring as new growth emerges. No additional feeding needed.

Pruning

Cut back in late autumn

Cut all stems to ground level after flowering ends in late autumn. Pinch tips in early summer for bushier habit.

Spacing

45 cm apart

Space plants 45 cm apart to allow for mature spread and good air circulation.
