How to Grow Brachyscome

Brachyscome multifida

Perennial

Brachyscome multifida (Cut-leaf Daisy) is a tough Australian native evergreen perennial groundcover that produces masses of small daisy flowers in purple, pink, or white from spring through autumn. Plant in full sun to part shade in well-drained soil, spacing about 40 cm apart. Once established it is very drought-tolerant and needs minimal watering. Trim lightly after flowering to keep compact. Tolerates light frost but foliage may burn in prolonged cold. Excellent for borders, rockeries, retaining walls, and containers.

Care Essentials

Light application of native plant fertiliser in spring. Avoid heavy feeding.

Watch For

  • Powdery mildew
  • Aphids
  • Snails

Companions

Lavender, Salvia, Grasses, Rosemary

Care Requirements

Light

Full sun to part shade

Flowers most prolifically in full sun but tolerates partial shade. Avoid deep shade where flowering will be sparse.

Watering

Low water once established

Very drought-tolerant once established. Water lightly during extended dry periods. Shallow root system dries out quickly in containers.

Fertilizing

Light native plant feed in spring

Apply a slow-release native plant fertiliser in spring. Avoid heavy or high-phosphorus feeds which can damage Australian natives.

Pruning

Trim after flowering to maintain shape

Light trim after each flush of flowers encourages compact growth and repeat blooming. Hard prune in late spring if plant becomes leggy or open in the centre.
