Plot Designer

Design Your Garden Layout

The Plot Designer lets you arrange your plants exactly where you want them to grow. Plan your garden beds and containers visually, then take your perfect layout outside and make it real.

Why You’ll Love It

  • See exactly how many plants fit in each space
  • Try different arrangements without digging anything up
  • Plan succession planting so you always have something growing
  • Avoid overcrowding and ensure every plant has room to thrive
  • Create a visual map that guides your planting day

Getting Started

Before you begin, make sure your garden beds and containers have their measurements entered. The designer needs dimensions to calculate spacing and show you accurate layouts.

Design Your Perfect Layout

Beds and Containers

Switch between Beds mode for traditional garden plots and Pots mode for container gardens. Each mode gives you the right tools for that type of growing space.

Drag and Drop Planning

Simply drag plants from your list onto the garden layout. The designer automatically spaces them correctly based on each plant’s needs. Stretch or shrink planting areas with easy-to-use handles.

Visual Timeline

Use the timeline to see how your garden changes through the seasons. Watch as early crops finish and new plantings take their place. This helps you plan continuous harvests and avoid empty spaces.

Smart Spacing

The designer shows you exactly how many plants fit in each area. Warnings appear when you try to place too many plants, helping you avoid the common mistake of overcrowding.

Perfect for Planning

Experiment with companion planting arrangements, test different crop rotations, and see how everything fits together before you buy seeds or start planting.

Mobile Friendly

Take your tablet or phone right to the garden. The designer works perfectly on touch devices, so you can adjust your plans while standing in your actual growing space.

From Plan to Purchase

Your layout automatically calculates how much soil, compost, and amendments you need. Connect your design to Garden Resources and Shopping List to buy exactly the right amounts.

Tips for Success

  • Start with your biggest plants first, then fill in around them
  • Use the timeline to plan shade from taller plants
  • Check spacing warnings to give plants room to grow
  • Save multiple versions to compare different layouts
