Start your garden season

What this does

Create a new garden plan for any year you want to grow in. Leaftide checks if you already have a plan for that year and helps you set up everything you need to start planning your garden.

When you need this

  • You want to start planning for a new gardening year
  • You’re getting ready for next season and want to plan ahead
  • You’ve selected a year that doesn’t have a garden plan yet

What you’ll accomplish

  • Set up a new garden season for planning
  • Choose which year you want to work on
  • Add notes about your garden plans for that year
  • Get your dashboard ready for garden planning

How to start your garden season

1. Check if planning is available

On your Dashboard, you’ll see a card to start planning if the selected year doesn’t have a garden plan yet. The card tells you which year you’re setting up so you can confirm it’s the right one.

If you already have a plan for that year, you won’t see the card - this prevents you from creating duplicate plans.

2. Create your garden plan

  1. Click Start Planning on the card
  2. Choose the year you want to plan for (Leaftide suggests current, previous, or next year)
  3. Add optional notes about your garden goals or plans for that year
  4. Submit the form to create your garden plan

Once you submit, your Dashboard will update to show your planning workspace for that year.

3. Begin planting when ready

Your garden plan automatically becomes active when you start planting seeds or moving plants outdoors. There’s no separate step to activate your season - it happens naturally as you begin your garden work.

Good practice: Each time you switch years, check if you need to start planning for that season. It’s helpful to plan next year’s garden while this year’s plants are still growing.

Helpful tips

  • The planning card only appears when you need it, so you won’t accidentally create multiple garden plans for the same year
  • Leaftide automatically suggests the right year to plan for (for example, it will suggest next year in late fall)
  • If you need to make changes after creating your plan, you can edit your information and resubmit

Need help?

  • Don’t see the planning card: Make sure the year selector is set to a year without an existing garden plan
